The People’s Church, Clongowes Wood College

Client: The People’s Church, Clongowes Wood College
Value: €250k

The Project consisted of the restoration of the outer façade and roof membrane of the People’s Church at Clongowes Wood College. NJOG acted as Project Manager, Conservation Engineers and Structural Engineers.
The church was constructed between 1819 and 1821 and had recently fallen into disrepair; A modified queen-post roof truss had collapsed due to the damage inflicted by the presence of moisture and subsequent rotting; the external sand and cement render which was added circa 50 years ago was out of character with the surrounding architecture and had also failed; there was wide scale wet rot in the glazing bars and frames of the original 8 over 8 sash windows and there was water ingress in the main roof due to insufficient lapping of the slates and poor lead and copper work detailing.
The Building has been successfully restored to its original glory.
